Household Information Screen

Include SS in Analysis
If checked, the software will automatically calculate and include in the presentation Social Security benefits for retirement, survivor needs (for surviving spouse and children), and disability.
Estimate Based on Salary
The software calculates Social Security benefits based on the “Salary” amounts on the “Earnings/Other Income” screen.  The software calculates the percentage the “Salary” bears to the Maximum Taxable Earnings as provided by the SSA annually to determine benefit levels, and then adjusts them based on start dates for retirement and family situations for retirement, disability and survivor benefits. Future benefits are inflated at the “Social Security Annual Increase Rate” on the Assumptions screen.  Visit http://www.ssa.gov for more information.
Enter Amounts From Benefits Statement
Click the Benefits button to enter values directly from a Social Security Benefit Statement.  The software uses the amounts entered to determine benefit levels, and then adjusts them based on start dates for retirement and family situations for retirement, disability and survivor benefits. Future benefits are inflated at the “Social Security Annual Increase Rate” on the “Assumptions” screen.  Visit http://www.ssa.gov for more information.
Dependents
Enter dependents and education information if applicable.  Information modified on this screen will also be modified on the Education Goal screen.
Annual College Cost
Enter an amount manually or use the “Lookup” button to access actual college and university costs.
Lookup (button)
Click the “Lookup” button to access the latest information on college and university costs.  College costs are in today’s dollars and will be inflated at the “Inflation Rate for College Costs” listed on the Assumptions screen.
Years of College
Enter the number of years the dependent will attend college.  Calculations assume the dependent will begin college at age 18.
Percent of Funding From Parents
Enter the percentage of the total college costs that your client is planning to provide.  100% means they plan to provide for all of the dependent’s college costs.
